A unique musical illuminated floating fountain opened in the Western Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia on September 4, 2011. The fountain is the world’s only floating fountain mounted in the natural body of water and by its technical parameters can only be compared to one such water facility in the world – the Dubai Fountain.
The grand opening of the Vinnytsia fountain featured the performance by the sand animation team Sand Union, the musical and laser shows. Many residents of Vinnytsia visited the festivities to witness an instrumental band Symphomania open the concert, followed by the performances of a number of Ukrainian pop musicians.
The show culminated in a half hour debut performance by the newly constructed fountain itself – streams of water choreographed to music and accompanied by the light show were creating unique unforgettable mosaics of illuminated water drops. Ornate blasts of fireworks completed the opening ceremony.
The fountain in Vinnytsia is mounted upon a vessel floating on the surface of the natural body of water – the Southern Buh River. This distinguishes the Ukrainian art piece from the UAE’s one which is a static fountain system set on the 30-acre manmade Burj Khalifa Lake in downtown Dubai, United Arab Emirates, known as the Dubai Fountain.
Curiously, the Dubai fountain construction budget was reported to be USD 218 mln while the cost of the construction of the Vinnytsia fountain (including the cost of the renovation of the surrounding areas) amounts to USD 8,75 mln.
The Vinnytsia fountain is now Europe’s largest musical illuminated floating fountain. The height of the fountain is over 60 meters (196,85 feet) and its range – 140 meters (459,32 feet).
Also, the fountain is the first sociocultural project in Ukraine of such scale to be fully financed by the private funds. The Petro Poroshenko Fund was the sponsor of the construction that lasted for about 18 months..
The fountain in Vinnytsia will function daily between 12 a.m. and 10 p.m. until winter.
