It is the most famous literary memorial Museum of the Ukrainian capital. It is devoted to “Kiev Bulgakov”. Bulgakov spent several years from 1906 till 1919 n this building – the years of his gymnasium and University education and some medical practice.

At the same time this Museum, located in a mansion in Andreyevskiy Descend, is devoted to the writer’s family and literary reflection of his heroes in the novel “The white guard”

The exhibition’s solution is wonderful: it’s kept in two colors. There seems to be contact between the two worlds –real and literary ones. The Bulgakovs` genuine belongings alternate with white models, imitations of lost everyday life objects, mythical, novel features of the interior. The histories of two families – the Bulgakovs and the Turbinys, the story of the author and his hero becomes tightly intertwined in the space of several rooms.

Memorial and literal atmosphere intertwine in unique junctions here, extending to “the 5th dimension”. And then a clothes locker becomes the door to the “bad” Moscow flat, which, at the same time, is the door to Kiev flat, to the real cabinet of the owner of the house. The space shifts again during the trip around the museum and then we can even see the stars that seemed to Aleksey Turbin, “The White Guard” hero, see the flame tips, trying to burn eternal manuscripts .We can also observe big snow flakes, falling into the room like directly from the space.

The old revived tradition of tea drinking on the house porch, inviting everybody who wishes, is a great illustration of the creative and intelligent atmosphere of Bulgakov family.
